Washington: US President Trump's tariff policy reminded us of the chicken war of the 1960s.

The American newspaper Wall Street Journal commented that in 1962, when a tariff was imposed on the import of American chicken in Germany, the United States imposed a tariff on German trucks in response, but instead of benefiting consumers, local chicken became more expensive in Germany and good trucks became rare in the United States.

The Wall Street Journal says that the tariffs imposed by Trump in 2018 also hurt American consumers as domestic manufacturers benefit from the tariff war while consumers' household budgets increase.
