According to Indian media, a passenger pulled the emergency chain on the rumor of a fire in the Pushpak train from Lucknow to Mumbai.
According to officials, as soon as the train stopped when the chain was pulled, the passengers jumped from the train onto the track in front and at the same time the Karnataka Express coming from the opposite direction collided with the passengers.
According to Indian media, 12 passengers were killed while many others were injured after being hit by the train.
