Seoul: The impeachment trial of suspended President Yoon Seok-yul for the failed attempt to impose martial law in South Korea will begin today. According to Yoon Suk-yul's legal team, he will not appear in Tuesday's hearing, but the decision to appear in the next hearings will be made based on the situation. Yoon Seok-yul, as president, imposed martial law in South Korea on December 3. Within just 3 hours of the announcement, members of parliament passed a resolution to defeat martial law, suspending Yoon from office. South Korea faced the worst political crisis in its history due to the suspension of the president. The impeachment trial of the suspended president will consist of five hearings in total, with the final hearing scheduled for February 4. Yoon Suk-yul, who is hiding from, will not appear in court. The Constitutional Court must decide within 180 days whether to remove Yun from office or restore his presidential powers. Yun also faces a criminal investigation into the alleged coup, with authorities seeking to execute an arrest warrant after he ignored a summons to appear for questioning. Seok Dong-hyun, a lawyer for Yoon, said on Monday that the ousted president would not appear at the Constitutional Court on Tuesday, as authorities are trying to detain him.
