How much has the birth rate in Pakistan decreased from 6 children per woman?

Pakistan has seen a large change in birth rate, with births per woman falling to less than 6 children in 2024.

According to the United Nations World Fertility Report 2024, the birth rate was 6 children per woman in 1994, which has decreased to 3.6 in 2024.

Further reducing future growth in the number of births will allow governments and families to more effectively allocate resources to invest in the health and well-being of children and adolescents, the report says.

Global birth rates have declined steadily over the past half century, from an average of 4.8 per woman in 1970 to 2.2 in 2024. Women today have one fewer child on average than in 1990, when the global birth rate was 3.3.
