The announcement of the Kurdish militant leader of Rukia, Abdullah Ocalan, to surrender and disband his organization
According to the foreign news agency, Öcalan's appeal could lead to the end of the 40-year conflict with Turkey and could have far-reaching consequences in terms of political and security in the region.
A delegation from the pro-Kurdish Turkish party People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) met Öcalan in his prison on Thursday and later released his statement in Istanbul.
It should be noted that Abdullah Öcalan has been imprisoned in Amralı prison in Turkey since 1999.
Ocalan said in his statement, "I am calling for surrender and accept this historic responsibility."
According to DEM party members, Öcalan has called on his party to hold a meeting and decide to formally dissolve itself.
According to Arab media, a letter attributed to Abdullah Ocalan, the rebel leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, was read at the conference of Turkey's DEM party.
Abdullah Öcalan said that peace is more powerful than taking up arms and war, we want to convey the message of peace and security.
Abdullah Öcalan further said that Kurdistan Workers' Party came into being when the existence of Kurds was not being recognized, the establishment of Kurdistan Workers' Party was inevitable to face the challenges.
In his letter, Abdullah Öcalan said that all armed groups must surrender.
It should be noted that Turkey and its Western allies consider the PKK a terrorist organization.
According to foreign news agencies, more than 40 thousand people have been killed so far in the fighting started by PKK in 1984. The PKK initially aimed for a separate state for the Kurds, but later abandoned its separatist views and focused on fighting for greater autonomy and Kurdish rights in southeastern Turkey.
