Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi asked Chief Justice Shahbaz Sharif for suggestions to improve the justice system.

 The Prime Minister and the Chief Justice had a meeting in which Shahbaz Sharif congratulated Yahya Afridi on taking charge, expressed his best wishes and appreciated his initiative of consulting stakeholders for timely delivery of justice.

 During the meeting, the country's economic situation and security challenges were also discussed, while the Prime Minister informed about the long-pending tax disputes in various courts and requested for quick decisions on their merits.

 The Chief Justice of Pakistan welcomed the discussion on the improvement of the justice system by the Prime Minister and asked for suggestions for further improvement in the justice system. Shahbaz Sharif assured Yahya Afridi to speed up effective measures regarding the missing persons.

 Federal Law Minister Nazir Tarar and Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan were also present in the meeting.

 The Supreme Court said in an ongoing statement that the Prime Minister met on the invitation of the Chief Justice, which is part of the reforms agenda, Yahya Afridi had sent the agenda of the judicial policy-making committee meeting and asked for suggestions.

 The Chief Justice said in the conversation with the Prime Minister that he will also take the opposition into confidence on judicial policy making, he will also take suggestions from the opposition so that the reforms are non-controversial and sustainable.

 According to the statement, the Prime Minister was accompanied by Law Minister and Advisor Ahad Cheema, the Registrar Supreme Court and Secretary Law and Justice Commission also participated in the meeting, the Chief Justice also presented an honorary shield to the Prime Minister.

 On October 22, 2024, a special parliamentary committee nominated Supreme Court Judge Yahya Afridi as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan, while Justice Mansoor Ali Shah was first, Justice Muneeb Akhtar second and Justice Yahya Afridi third in terms of seniority.

 On October 26, 2024, Yahya Afridi was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Pakistan. The swearing-in ceremony of the nominated Chief Justice was held in the President's House. Yahya Afridi is the 30th Chief Justice of Pakistan.
