 A special court in the Indian city of Calcutta gave a historic verdict in the rape case.

   A special court in Calcutta convicted Rajeev Ghosh of raping a 7-month-old baby and sentenced him to death.

   Terming the crime as 'extremely rare', the court has also ordered a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the victim's family.

 According to Indian media, this horrific incident took place on November 30, 2024 in Birtola area of Calcutta when the infant was reported missing by her parents, who lived on the footpath, several hours later the girl was found crying on the footpath with severe injuries and medical examination revealed that the girl had been sexually assaulted.

 After the incident, the police immediately obtained CCTV footage of the area and identified the accused Rajeev Ghosh, who was arrested on December 4 last year from Jhargram, West Bengal, a few days after the crime.

 According to Indian media reports, the investigation was completed quickly with the charge sheet being presented in the court in 26 days and the case was fast-tracked due to which it was heard early.
