Apple Maps changes Lake Ontario name

The Apple Maps service app has changed the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America for US-based users, following an order from President Donald Trump as part of Washington's trade spat with Canada.

Canada has responded by placing new signs at the lake, declaring it would always be called Lake Ontario. The move is seen as a response to Washington's levies on $20bn worth of Canadian goods.

Google made a similar switch for its users in the US, leading to backlash on social media. Prime Minister Mark Carney's office had walked away from trade negotiations due to what his office has called unacceptable demands.
